Season 2021-22

85TH SEASON

The 2021-22 season, the first completed season after the Covid 19 pandemic, was a difficult one not only for the Club but also most local football in trying to get back to normal.

Both the first team and veterans struggled on the field but there were some highlights during the season.

Following withdrawals, Division Three of the East Sussex League was made up of only seven teams with the 1st team playing only seventeen matches in the entire season, the last of these was in the quarter final of the Hastings F A Junior Cup away to Sedlescombe Rangers II which was played on the 12th February. League fixtures were completed on the 29th January.

The side finished mid-way in the division with five wins from twelve league matches. AFC Hollington, the champions and runners-up Ninfield were far too good for the division. The best win of the season came in the second round of the Hastings F A Junior Cup with a 5-1 defeat of Northiam 75 II from Division Two.

Blue Willoughby was voted the Players’ Player of the Year for the season with Leon Pettit taking the Manager’s Player award. Tom Cumber was named Young Player of the Year.

The 1st team gained the highest sportsmanship marks for teams in Division Three and earning a £50 reward from the League.

The veterans season was rather a stop-start one with points being award for unfulfilled fixtures on three occasions – twice when opponents could not raise a team and Sedlescombe Rangers Veterans were awarded the match when the veterans did not have a side late in the season.

The season began with a very good 4-2 victory away to Sporting Club Pass and Move Veterans but only one further victory was achieved on the field – a comprehensive 9-1 success against Bexhill Town Veterans. A heavy defeat was suffered against League champions Sidley United Veterans but the other games were all closely fought affairs.

Val Newman won the Veterans Player of the Year trophy.
