Charity Golf Event
36 HOLES-IN-A-DAY IN NINE DIFFERENT COUNTIES GOLF CHALLENGE
Monday, 7th July 2014
The charity golf challenge which took place on Monday, 7th July 2014 was to play thirty-six holes on nine different courses in nine different counties in one day and using only five clubs.
There were also nine competitors taking part – Bob Baker, Chris Baker, Steve Beale, Mike Beaumont, Ollie Beaumont, Tony Forster, Tim Linch, David Mayne and Hugh Sullivan.
It was an early start in order to be at the first hole on the first course at Slinfold near Horsham, West Sussex (1) for a 5 am tee-off. After four holes it was off to courses at Chiddingfold in Surrey (2), Southwood in Farnborough, Hampshire (3), Datchet in Berkshire (4), Richings Park, Iver in Buckinghamshire (5), Stockley Pines, Uxbridge in the old county of Middlesex (6), the Nine of Herts, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire (7), Mardyke Valley, South Ockendon, Essex (8) and despite traffic delays, the Weald of Kent Course in Headcorn (9).
At the Weald of Kent the final putt was holed just after 9 pm. This was followed by a welcome curry in the clubhouse to complete a long, tiring but successful day.
The co-operation of all the courses was greatly appreciated and enabled the challenge to take place. Thanks went to Bob Baker, Steve Beale and David Mayne who were the main organisers. The club was also extremely grateful to all those who supported the event by sponsoring holes. The amount raised was £1360 and was divided equally between Macmillan Cancer Support and the New Icklesham Pavilion Fund.
A competition among the players took place over the course of the day and this was won comfortably by Tim Linch with Hugh Sullivan in second place and Ollie Beaumont third.
