2020 Tournament

THE 13TH ICKLESHAM CASUALS GOLF TOURNAMENT

With the worldwide Covid 19 pandemic and national lockdowns, the 13th Icklesham Casuals Golf Tournament was moved from the original date of the 10th July to Friday, 2nd October and played at Dale Hill Golf Club in Ticehurst and as a result the weather was not so kind.

Eleven hardy souls braved lashing rain and a strong breeze and to show how bad it was, the competition had to be moved from the Old Course at Dale Hill (which was closed because of flooding!) to the longer and more difficult Woosnam course.

It was good to see current Icklesham footballers Asa and Ben Croucher, Adam Sully and Mike Beaumont there as well as a number of former players.

The weather fortunately relented after around five holes by which time everybody was soaked as was the course.

THE COMPETITORS

The winner of the tournament was Steve Beale – a former player with over 400 appearances – who took the title for the second time having previously won at Tenterden Golf Club in 2016. Steve finished one point ahead of runner-up Ben Croucher with Nick Sparks a further point back in third place. Hugh Sullivan won the ‘Wooden Spoon’ for finishing last with 10 points.

Thank you to all for turning up in what was at times biblical rain. Apologies to Stuart Baker who was unable to make the slightly earlier tee because of travel issues and had to pull out.

Because of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic it had been decided not to hold a Christmas competition this year but hopefully we will be back planning for further events in 2021.
