2010 Christmas Golf Event

CHRISTMAS GOLF 2010

The bad weather relented sufficiently for the second Icklesham Winter Golf Tournament to take place on 28th December. The venue was Eastbourne Golfing Park (a late change from Horam Park because of the conditions) and eleven hardy souls turned up. The eleven were split into three teams for the Texas Scramble format.

THE TEAMS

The Wayne Bumstead/David Mayne/Keith Swallow power trio started proceedings with Wayne spanking a lovely drive close to the green. By contrast Steve Beale hit the opening drive for the foursome including George Potter, Ollie Beaumont and Bob Baker. He nearly troubled the passing traffic so bad was his slice.

The final group was a foursome involving Richard Forrest, Mike Beaumont, Tim Linch and Tony Forster. They started like a house on fire with two birdies in the first three holes. Unfortunately for them they couldn’t sustain it and ended the nine holes on even par. The power trio also ended on even par – a last hole bogey pegging them back. The Steve Beale group were consistent throughout and ended one under par.

After the handicaps were taken into account it was the team of Wayne Bumstead, Dave Mayne and Keith Swallow who triumphed by one stroke with Wayne also taking the prize for nearest the pin on the 9th hole.
