Club Celebrations and Reunions
75TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER
The Lodge at Winchelsea
Friday, 21st September 2012
The 75th anniversary celebrations continued into the 2012-13 season with a formal dinner at the Lodge at Winchelsea on Friday, 21st September attended by forty seven past and present members of the club and their partners. The dinner was a great success and enjoyed by all those who were there.
Brian Barden and Mike Hills both travelled considerable distances to be present but a few could not make it at the last minute with David French unfortunately unable to attend due to illness.
A great deal of organisation went into the event and one of the difficult decisions that needed to be made was who to invite. With numbers limited it was decided the criteria would be past and present officers of the club, players making over three hundred appearances, members of the 1963-64 Sussex Junior Cup winning side and others who had made a significant contribution to the club.
THE TABLES
Each table at the 75th Anniversary Dinner was named in memory of members of the club who made a major contribution in the first seventy five years but who were sadly no longer with us. Some of these past members were also a major inspiration behind the charity fundraising –
- William Dunlop
- Andrew Dunlop
- Arthur and Frank Baker
- Frank Crisford
- Jon Fuller
- Bert Glazier
- Alf Holdstock
- Brian Luck

PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE EVENING
CHARITY CHEQUE PRESENTATIONS
The evening provided the opportunity for the first two presentations to be made to the good causes supported by the 75th anniversary charity fundraising.
Firstly, David Mayne presented a cheque for £750 to Marcia Dart from St Michael’s Hospice and then Dave Minett handed a cheque for a similar amount to his daughter, Vanessa Martin who was representing Children with Tumours.
THE OLYMPIC TORCH
Dave Minett, fresh from the tremendous honour of being selected as one of the bearers of the Olympic torch as it travelled around the country prior to the London Olympics, donned his uniform for people to have their photograph taken with the torch in return for a small donation to the charity fundraising.
SUSSEX JUNIOR CUP WINNERS 1963-64
Six of the Sussex Junior Cup winning side of the 1963-64 season were present at the 75th Anniversary Dinner – Chris Ades, David Ades, Jack Brown, Bill Burt, Mike Hills and George Potter with Bryan Butler joining for a drink later in the evening. Brian Barden, who missed the final having unluckily been injured in a match on the Monday prior to the final was also there so the opportunity for a photograph was taken.
