2009 Christmas Golf Event

CHRISTMAS GOLF 2009

The weather forecast wasn’t good but twelve foolhardy ICFC members turned up at Horam Park Golf Club on 29th December 2009 for the Christmas Golf Event.

The format was a nine hole Texas Scramble – a team event which involves three-person teams playing three balls, but with each shot coming from the same spot (the best of the three drives is chosen and all three team members then hit from that spot, and so on).

THE TEAMS

The winning team was captained (in the loosest definition of the word) by Mike Beaumont and his team members were Gavin Moor and Bob Baker. They went round in a par score of 35 for the nine holes and – when the team handicaps had been deducted – won by 2 shots.

Tony Forster’s team (with Ollie Beaumont and Keith Swallow) were second. A considerable achievement considering Tony was hardly the positive role-model having moaned about the rain and the cold and the state of the greens and…….

Steve Beale’s team (with Richard Forrest and young buck Lewis Tiltman) were third (fantastic team bonding Steve!) and Dave Tiltman’s team (Wayne Bumstead and David Mayne) were fourth. The fact they went out last and therefore played half their round in the heavy rain and could scarcely grip a club on the last two holes may have had something to do with it.

Wayne Bumstead and Gavin Moor won prizes for nearest the pin on the 5th and 7th hole respectively.

Despite the weather an enjoyable and worthwhile event.
