CHARITY GOLF DAY 2017
Thursday, 18th May 2017

The Charity Golf Day held at the Weald of Kent Golf Course on Thursday, 18th May 2017 as part of the 80th anniversary season not only contributed to the charity fund raising target but also helped to promote the 80 holes in five countries golf challenge that took place in June 2017.
Six teams each made up of four players competed for the trophy kindly supplied by Tower Trophies. Five of the teams were composed of current and former players of the club together with their friends with the other team captained by John Cooper who not only greatly assisted with the organisation of the 80 hole challenge but also took part in the event.
The cost to enter the competition was £38 which included tea or coffee and a bacon roll at the start, 18 holes of golf and a two-course meal to finish.
THE TROPHY
Tower Trophies from Evesham in Worcestershire, who the club had previously used for end of season awards, were giving away a cup worth £100 every month throughout 2017 to a deserving cause.
The club liked their Facebook page and posted a message about the 80 holes golf challenge saying how this could make a difference and were lucky enough to be chosen to receive one of the engraved trophies which was awarded to the winning team at the charity golf day.

A group photograph was taken before the first group comprising Tim Linch, Iwan Lewis, Nick Sparks and Colin Young got the competition under way.
Keith Swallow, a member of Beaumont’s Motley Men, unfortunately had to withdraw part-way through the round after suffering back problems.
It was the Cooper’s Collective quartet of John Cooper, Stewart Chance, Wayne Collier and Adrian Fisk who lifted the trophy, finishing on 96 points, six ahead of Christopher’s Cornucopia.
Colin Young took the individual award as best golfer of the day with Iwan Lewis winning the prize for nearest the pin on the 13th hole.
A successful event raised over £1,000 towards the fund raising target which would be split between the Alzheimer’s Society and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Presentation of the prizes…..

A ‘Bus Stop’ was organised as part of the golf day with a number of quality prizes donated by golf companies and local businesses. This was drawn as part of the presentation of the prizes.
The club was especially grateful to Ping Europe Limited who provided an excellent golf bag which was won by Steve Beale. Ping were hopefully impressed by the 80 hole challenge and the effort put in to ensure the goal was achieved for the benefit of the good causes.
