Club Celebrations and Reunions
80TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Lodge at Winchelsea
Saturday, 28th October 2017
The celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of the club was held at the Lodge at Winchelsea on Saturday, 28th October 2017 commencing at 7 pm with the event taking place later in the year than planned. A date in July had originally been set but this was postponed due to a poor response with holidays being the reason a number of people would not be able to attend.
The occasion was more ‘low-key’ than previous celebrations and not as well attended which was understandable and the evening felt like the end of an era for the club with a number of regular attendees of past anniversaries no longer with us or unable to be there.
The evening, which was combined with the presentation of club awards for the 2016-17 season, was still enjoyable and it was good to see a number of past players present. These included club president George Potter, former chairman Eric Hollingsworth, members of the Sussex Junior Cup winning team in Chris Ades, Bill Burt and Mick Hills along with Stuart Baker, Peter Drew, Andrew Dunlop, Dave Harding, Colin Hills and Chris Morrell.
An 80th birthday cake was baked, decorated with an Icklesham Casuals subbuteo team, a buffet eaten, old photographs and club memorabilia were on display, club chairman Bob Baker made a speech, Martin Tytherleigh, Mike Beaumont and Michael Rogers organised the presentations and a charity raffle was held with former 1st team captain Steve Beale calling out the numbers.
Tickets for the 80th anniversary celebration included the first drink of the evening!
